Dry Eye

Dry eye is a common condition characterized by insufficient lubrication and moisture on the surface of the eye. It occurs when the tear film, which is responsible for keeping the eyes moist and comfortable, becomes unstable or inadequate. Dry eye can be caused by various factors, including aging, hormonal changes, environmental factors (such as dry or windy climates), prolonged screen time, certain medications, and underlying health conditions.

Symptoms

  • Dryness

  • Foreign Body Sensation

  • Irritation

  • Burning

  • Redness

  • Blurred vision

Treatment

Treatment options for dry eye aim to alleviate symptoms and improve tear production and tear film stability. This can include using artificial tears or lubricating eye drops, managing contributing factors (e.g., adjusting environmental conditions, taking breaks from screen time), using prescription medications (such as anti-inflammatory eye drops), and, in severe cases, employing advanced therapies like punctal plugs or serum tears.
